About Sunny Vista

Sunny Vista consists of three neighborhoods: The Villa offers HUD-Subsidized Independent Living, The Retreat provides Assisted Living and Memory Care; and the Living Center specializes in Long-Term Care, and Short-Term Rehabilitation .

Sunny Vista is a 501c3 organization that is operated by Cappella Living Solutions.

Continuing Care Communities (CCC) like Sunny Vista are designed to provide peace of mind by removing future uncertainties. Our approach allows residents access to a full range of senior living options while remaining in a familiar, supportive environment as their needs change over time.

Unlike some communities that require long-term contracts, Sunny Vista offers flexible options without a lifelong commitment, giving residents and their families greater freedom and confidence.

General

The nearest airport to Colorado Springs is Colorado Springs (COS) Airport which is 7 miles away.

At The Villa at Sunny Vista, residents must be senior citizens with either low income or very low income. To qualify as low income, you must earn less than 80 percent of the median income for your county of residence. If you earn less than 50 percent of the median income for your county, you are considered very low income. You must show proof of income when applying, along with current rental status and recent history and a list of family members who will be living with you.

How long you and your physician expect you to be at Sunny Vista Living Center will help you decide what items to bring. We encourage you and your family to make your bedroom as “home-like” as possible. Bring things that are comforting, such as family photos, a plant or nice picture for your wall, and things you normally use at home. Consider bringing items such as books, magazines, or a radio. We encourage family and friends to help you decorate your room with photos, cards, a calendar, or pictures. Place your name on each personal possession to assist us if they are misplaced. We do not recommend that you bring items of value or large amounts of money. We do have a resident bank account offered by our business office that can assist with financial resources.

For most residents, clothing that is casual, durable and washable is the best choice. You will wear your own clothes each day as you participate in therapy sessions and activities and eat in the dining room. On-site commercial laundry services are provided. We suggest that you label each item of clothing you bring prior to admission to Sunny Vista or your CNA can assist you with labeling upon your arrival. The following list offers some suggestions to help guide you:

  • Loose, comfortable clothing that is easy to get on and off
  • Glasses, hearing aids, or any other adaptive personal items used at home
  • Warm socks and slippers or footwear
  • Books, magazines, or anything you might enjoy doing while recovering at Sunny Vista
  • While toiletries are provided, guests are encouraged to bring specialty toiletry items if they prefer
  • Stationery and pens, hobby supplies, etc.

Services and Care

Currently, Sunny Vista offers assisted living, memory care and long-term care and short-term rehabilitation services on-site.

Assisted living provides assistance with activities of daily living; coordination of services by outside health care providers; and monitoring of resident activities to help to ensure their health, safety, and well-being. Assistance may include the administration or supervision of medication and personal care services provided by a trained caregivers.

Memory care is for a loved one with Alzheimer’s or related dementias. Dementia is a general term that describes a group of symptoms such as loss of memory, judgment, language, complex motor skills, and other intellectual functions caused by the permanent damage or destruction of the brain. Unfortunately, there are no known cures for Alzheimer’s or most forms of dementia. However, in our memory care neighborhood, we implement our innovative, holistic Rhythms Dementia philosophy that can decrease the anxieties and difficulties related to dealing with dementia.

Long-term care is a place of residence for people who require routine nursing care and assistance with daily activities. Residents of a skilled nursing facility (SNF) may also receive physical, occupational, speech and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident, illness or injury.

Our experienced team is trained to support guests’ recovery from a range of injuries and illnesses including cardiac care, post-surgical recovery, stroke and neurological, rebuild strength and balance, and help to regain function affected by chronic conditions such as arthritis, and much more.

Military veterans and/or surviving spouses may be eligible for benefits that can be used to assist with the costs of care in the home or in an assisted living or skilled nursing community. The Veteran’s Aid and Attendance Pension is tax free and paid directly to the veteran or surviving spouse. Qualifying single veterans, veterans surviving spouse, and veterans and their spouses can receive up to $2,230 per month. The government does not notify veterans that they may be entitled to these benefits, so many eligible senior veterans are unaware of this pension.

Veterans must be at least 65 years old or be permanently disabled and meet eligibility requirements to qualify. Income, asset and medical eligibility requirements must also be met. Basic eligibility is comprised of three requirements:

  • The claimant must be a veteran, or the spouse of a veteran. This includes Reservists and those in the National Guard under certain conditions.
  • The veteran must have been discharged under a condition other than that of dishonorable.
  • The veteran must have served at least 90 days of active duty, with at least one day served during a time of war (although the veteran need not have been in a combat zone).

For more information on eligibility, please visit the Benefits CheckUp website. A professional familiar with this benefit can assist veterans in determining eligibility and help with the application process. The Social Services or Community Relations team at your community can provide you with names of professional resources to help you. For more information you can also visit the VA Benefits website.
